NEW Private Online High School - 3rd Post - Business Partner

This week are looking at three things:

  1. Finding a Business Partner that lives in America that aligns with my thinking.
  2. Thinking about the courses we will offer.
  3. Looking over the requirements for accreditation.
If you are a principal, teacher or a businessman who would like to see the dream of a top-notch virtual high school come true, then please contact me.  One good thing is that since the school is virtual the money requirements before starting are much less than brick-n-mortar schools.  Here are the only fees I could think of...
  • Business license fee.
  • Membership to Cognia $1200. (Cognia is the one that will accredit the high school later)
  • Website Creation Fee + Website hosting fee.
  • LMS fees (at least 6 months before starting the school so we can add lots of material including what educational standards our courses will follow for each lesson)
  • Any other tools we might need to add with LMS. (About 6 months before starting the school to make sure everything is ready).
  • Zoom Professional Fee (once we get very close to starting the school).
  • Paying Salespeople (but hopefully we can find salespeople who will work on commission only)
Here are the things that I hope my business partner agrees with...
The high school will ...
  • Be technically strong in STEM with extra classes in Computers and Robotics (both during school hours and offering after hours classes)
  • Be open around 18-20 hours a day to allow students from around the world to attend and allow students to take night classes especially if their parents work nights to allow them a better family life.  All students would get an American High School Diploma.
  • Focus on the German language to allow all students the opportunity to get a college education for FREE in Germany.
  • Offer optional classes after school for ACT/SAT to help students get scholarships to American colleges if they want to go to universities in America.

At our institution, we are committed to offering a diverse and enriching educational experience tailored to the needs and aspirations of our students. First and foremost, we are proud to announce that we will be offering ESL (English as a Second Language) classes. These courses are designed to support students whose native language is not English, ensuring that they have the linguistic tools necessary for success in all aspects of their education. But that's not all. We understand that the world is rapidly evolving, and the key to a brighter future lies in harnessing the power of technology. To that end, we are wholeheartedly embracing technology as a cornerstone of our educational approach. Our commitment to integrating technology into the curriculum is aimed at providing students with valuable skills that will not only prepare them for the challenges of today but also empower them to thrive in the digital landscape of tomorrow. In the coming weeks and months, we'll be sharing more details about our exciting class offerings, which are designed to inspire, challenge, and nurture the potential within each of our students. Stay tuned as we embark on this educational journey together, with a focus on shaping a brighter future for all.

NEW Private Online High School - Initial Post

 Why?

Why am I starting my own high school?

There are many reasons.

  • Bullying in Public schools are terrible and we can't get rid of bullies until the government gets rid of the pay per student per day program.  Right now schools get paid for each day a person is in class.  So, as you can see, there is an incentive for schools to keep bullies in class.  So, a Private school is best.
  • Private schools are expensive since they have to be paid for by the student's parents.  One big reason is brick-n-mortar costs a lot of money, so virtual is best to keep prices low.
  • But virtual has no tactile experience - so we need to add tactile experience.
  • Many schools don't want to fail students so they either
    • teach at the lowest level which means the very good students cannot reach their full potential.
    • they push the failing students to the next year which makes it harder to pass as classes build on what you learn
  • Most schools don't have strong science/technical programs.
  • Most schools don't properly prepare students for college especially for the financial aspect of it.

Advice for parents with young students

Many American parents dream of sending their child to university. Some consider the significant financial burden this may impose and make the challenging decision to enroll their child in community colleges or affordable institutions. Others are willing to shoulder the cost by taking out substantial student loans.

However, there is a more advantageous approach. Prepare your child early by having them study German for several years, ideally starting no later than the 9th grade. The earlier your child begins learning German, the more proficient they will become by the time they are ready for college. Delaying this preparation will necessitate more summer trips to Germany for immersion courses. Nevertheless, this remains a more cost-effective option than paying for prestigious American colleges.

Why am I suggesting early German language learning? Because Germany offers FREE education to ALL students worldwide at its public universities! Germany boasts numerous top-tier public universities that are on par with most American institutions. The only prerequisite is achieving fluency at the C1 level in German. Therefore, the sooner your child starts learning German, the easier it will be for them to attain this level.

Advice for educating students with ADHD.

If you have the ability, then my primary advice would be to homeschool them.  Why?  So, you can setup a learning environment that would help your child most.

The best thing to do is to have your child sit at a big desk or table and put one assignment on each corner of the desk (if they have more than 4, then put those some place else until one or more of the others are completed).

When doing this put any paper they need inside the book where they need to start working.  Example:  If they are working on page 234 of the book.  Then put their notebook inside the book at page 234.  then close the book - to keep the table as tidy as possible.

Next you will need an egg time or something that be set for a certain number of minutes EASILY.  Try 15 minutes and see how your child handles it.  If well, then leave it at that time.  If not well, then change to 10 minutes.

So, what your child needs to do is work on one subject for those 15 or so minutes when the timer goes off, put the notebook back into the book and put back into the corner.  Then get the next book with notebook.  Open the book then start the timer again and begin with that subject.  You keep doing this until all subjects are done.

Another option is to put a piece of paper in one corner that says "play".  Make sure they don't cheat, go to each corner in time and when they get to that piece of paper, let them play for the 15 minutes.

This will keep them from being too focused on one thing for too long.

The problem with sending them to a normal school is that a) they won't have big desks and b) they will have a more difficult time working on different topics.

Good luck.

Choosing the right method to solve a word problem

As you have seen, there are many ways to solve this word problem.  Now, some word problem or systems of equations will make it easier to solve a certain way than others.

Examples:

2x+5y = 12

3x-5y = -7

Elimination would be easiest because you can just add the two equations and immediately get rid of the y variable.

Whereas a problem like this:

x=2y-1

2x+7y=9

Would be best solved by substitution since it is already solved for x.  Now, just put that in the 2nd equation.

This problem

7x-5y=2

13x-7y=6

would work very well with Cramer's rule.

While this problem:

3.457x-9.28y=23.87

4.672x+12.82345y=-1.0023

I would jump right on one of the websites I mentioned!  I wouldn't waste my time with any of the other methods.  Yes, it is fine to use a calculator or website to solve problems but you shouldn't use them for easier problems.

A problem like:

x+3y=4

2x-5y=-3

Would be great with gaussian elimination.

So, knowing many methods will be very helpful to solving problems quickly and accurately.

7th Solving the problem using websites

I am showing you many ways to solve the same word problem.  In this post we will use 3 Websites to solve it.

Here is the word problem:

You and some friends are going to the movies.  They charge $9 for adults and $7 for children.  The movie theatre had 100 customers and made $790 that night.  How many of each type of ticket did they sell?

First, when working on a word problem you should ALWAYS do a setup. In this setup you explain what the variables that you are using stand for.

We will use x for the number of students and y for the number of adults.

The three websites I used were:

desmos.com

wolframalpha.com

symbolab.com

Please watch the video to see how to do it.

6th Solving the problem using Matrix Inverses

I am showing you many ways to solve the same word problem.  In this post we will use Matrix Inverses to solve it.  I do NOT recommend this way to solve a 2x2.

Here is the word problem:

Please watch the video to see how to do it.

NOTE:  You will notice I made a couple mistakes.  I left those mistakes in for a couple reasons.

  • To show you that everyone makes mistakes, so don't worry about it if you make a mistake.
  • To emphasize the importance of being able to ask yourself "does my answer make sense" and then make the decision.

2nd Solving the problem using substitution.

I am showing you many ways to solve the same word problem.  In this post we will use substitution to solve it.

Here is the word problem:

You and some friends are going to the movies.  They charge $9 for adults and $7 for children.  The movie theatre had 100 customers and made $790 that night.  How many of each type of ticket did they sell?

Solving a word problem using single and multiple variables.

Over the next few posts, I will show you many ways to solve the same word problem.

Examples:

t = time in seconds since program started

t = time in years since 1900

x = number of students in the class

I have seen so many students do good work but then get the answer wrong because they didn't do a setup and make sure the answer they got was what they were looking for.  So, please pay careful attention to the setup in the following posts and learn how to do it well.
